In the story collected in the House of X/Powers of X graphic novel, a new normal is established for mutantkind, totally shifting their role in the Marvel universe. But even if you’re familiar with Professor Charles Xavier and his gifted students, you’re not ready for the wild reality of the Hickman Omnibus. And that’s not even mentioning the different alternate universes, such as those recounted in Days of Future Past, Age of Apocalypse and House of M. Your first taste of the mutant superheroes could’ve come from Fox’s long-running movie franchise, which also includes the Wolverine and Deadpool movies. Or maybe you remember the Fox cartoon that used that run as a jumping-off point. Perhaps you grew up reading Chris Claremont’s definitive run on the comics in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. Ever since Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s The X-Men #1 was released in 1963, this franchise has evolved and forked off into different media. The X-Men have one of the more intimidating comic histories out there. Arguably, meat eating also meant that less time could be spent gathering and more time thinking up new and crafty ways to catch pray such as sharpening spears and rock-launching devices. Real food for thought for those trying to diet, but I digress. The brain, incidentally, uses an incredible 20 times the amount of energy as typical muscle mass. This, in turn, allowed for our stomachs to shrink as ‘ we didn't need a giant vegetable processor anymore 1' (a sort of evolutionary, natural and slow equivalent of today's stomach stapling) that allowed for more energy to be channelled to building other organs such as the brain. This is posited to have happened because through eating meat humans were able to consume a lot more calories than the traditional raw plant-based diets of early gathering societies. Meat made us smarter!
